Subject: Running a Channel 3 DCB in 33MHz Machines
Date: December 28, 1990
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
GENERAL
INFORMATION: Channel 3 DCB and 33MHz file server.
NetWare 386 v3.0 with the latest v3.0 DCB drivers.
PROBLEM: A customer reported the following two problems:
1) When a user copies files to a volume on the drive
attached to a channel 3 DCB in 33MHz file servers, the
workstation gets write errors and eventually the drive is
dismounted by NetWare. That volume loses all its data.
They moved everything to a 16MHz file server and the system
is working fine.
2) Set up a volume for Macintosh nodes. When a user who
does NOT have rights to a directory tries to copy a file to
that particular folder, the file server goes down.
SOLUTION: 1) This problem was set up in the lab using NetWare 386 v3.1
instead of v3.0. A batch file was run overnight that copied
10MB files back and forth and no errors were encountered.
2) This problem was also set up using NetWare 386 v3.1.
When copying a file to a directory that the user had no
rights in, the user got an error stating that they had no
rights to copy files to that directory. The file server did
not crash.
Any customer who is getting these problems should upgrade to
v3.1.
(X) This information was verified in the lab.
